IAC Acoustics’ NoiseLock Doors

WINK News

Location: Fort Myers, Florida

The Issue

As part of an upgrade and expansion of its studio facilities, WINK News identified the need for additional studio space in the Fort Myers, Florida region. Recognizing the importance of sound isolation in the communications industry, WINK incorporated this requirement as a key consideration in the expansion project.

The Challenge

Because the broadcast studio was located within an active office building, with a corridor directly outside, it was subject to frequent noise from foot traffic. In addition, the movement of large pieces of equipment into and out of the studio required an operable wall opening measuring 9’ x 10’, designed to function as a solid wall when closed.

Several man doors were also required to provide access to the on-air studios located across the corridor. A key challenge of design was minimizing noise transmission between the studios and adjacent areas.

The Solution

Cullum-USA, representing IAC Acoustics, proposed a solution consisting of Twenty (20) IAC Acoustics NoiseLock swing doors with sound transmission class (STC) ratings ranging from 51 to 55, along with one (1) STC-55 IAC Super NoiseLock sliding door, all delivered and installed as part of the project.

The swing man doors effectively blocked noise transmission between the studios and adjacent areas, while the sliding door served as the operable wall, providing access for equipment movement while also mitigating noise from corridor foot traffic.

The Result

The NoiseLock doors demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in blocking external noise when closed, allowing the client to conduct live broadcasts without any interference from external sources. Additionally, the recording studios maintained the desired level of quietness as per the design specifications, ensuring optimal conditions for recording and production activities.
